Transcription factors of the CBF- (LEC1), B3- (ABI3, FUS3, LEC2, and HSI2), and EREBP- (ABI4) families regulate the genes that encode storage proteins and late embryogenesis abundant (LEA) proteins. S. moellendorffii had putative orthologues for all of the genes, while LEC1 orthologue was not found in P. patens. This is mostly concordant with the induction of LEA-related proteins in ferns and mosses (Oliver et al., 2000).
