Technical expertise in DNA sequencing and sequence analysis, interested in genes and evolution. I have been identifying synaptotagmin genes since the mid-1990s. Synaptotagmin proteins are known to play an important role in synaptic vesicle exocytosis. I found genes similar to animal synaptotagmin genes, in the Arabidopsis genome, when it was published. Since that time I have been trying to understand the evolutionary relationships, and to consider the functional relationships, among animal synaptotagmins and their counterparts in plants.
